1. Overview

Novelative is an offline-first desktop application. We designed it with the philosophy that your creative work is personal and private. Unlike cloud-based writing platforms, we do not store, process, or have access to the novels, notes, or world-building data you create within the application.

2. Data Storage

Local Storage: All content you create in Novelative (projects, chapters, characters, graphs) is stored locally on your computer's hard drive in standard JSON and text file formats.

Cloud Sync: Novelative does not automatically sync your data to our servers. If you wish to back up your work or sync between devices, you must use your own third-party cloud service (e.g., Dropbox, Google Drive, OneDrive, or iCloud) by saving your project files into those synced folders. We have no access to these accounts.

3. Data Collection

We collect minimal data only for the purpose of licensing and software improvement:

  • License Validation: When you activate Novelative, we communicate with our licensing server to verify your key. We store your license key and a unique hardware identifier to manage device limits.
  • Crash Reports: If the application crashes, you may be prompted to send an anonymous crash report. This is optional and helps us fix bugs. These reports do not contain your manuscript text.
  • Website Analytics: On this website (novelative.com), we may use privacy-friendly analytics to count visitors and downloads. We do not track individual users across the web.

4. Payment Information

We use a secure third-party payment processor (Stripe & Lemon Squeezy) to handle all transactions. Novelative does not store or have access to your credit card information.

5. Updates

The application periodically checks our servers to see if a new version is available. This check sends your current version number to our server. No personal data is exchanged during this process.
